since first impressions are very important, a date should be light and not overdone. because ill tell you what, trying to improve one date to another could be quite tiring and expensive. a good movie and dinner with a nice ride, could be a car or a bike. i think maybe a car ride for the first time so this way you can talk and get to know each other. if the fair is in town, that could be a great date or say the renaissance, festivals are fun if there are any. nice walk at the zoo, or things that could help fill in the gaps
